Bar/Bat Mitzvah isn’t just the coming of age and maturation of a child into an adult. It is also a time when the soul begins to 'blossom', allowing the individual to find 'moral maturity' within him/herself. It's seen as a point of time when we can begin to find a crystallization/awareness of our values which we know to be correct - and have that awareness guide our conduct.

In Jewish thought, 'celebrations of the spirit' also need to be ‘celebrations of the body’. So a Bar Mitzvah event needs to find tangible ways to express the spiritual milestone it celebrates.

We believe that the most important event in the life of a young person, should be more than just rote memorization leading up to an anxiety-ridden recital of the Torah. Our emphasis in preparing B’nai Mitzvah, is to appreciate the spiritual meaning of this milestone and to provide each child with the knowledge and tools necessary to be an active Jewish adult no matter what life brings.

We strive to instill an awareness that this milestone is only the beginning of Jewish life and we help the children attain a greater appreciation of a Jewish adult's responsibilities.

Is your child nearing Bar or Bat Mitzvah age? Please contact Chana at [email protected] for more information and to schedule a meeting so that we can craft your child's ceremony and Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation schedule.

Chabad of Tribeca offers a special program for our Bar/Bat Mitzvah students called 'In the know & on the go' which brings to life many of the lessons we've been incorporating over your child's prior years in Hebrew School, and exposes them to exciting new experiences. They'll enjoy tours at NYC Museums and Synagogues, and experience many unique hands-on Jewish experiences while 'on the go' This is combined with a program that incorporates Hebrew language, studying the Jewish calendar in depth and working on Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation for those of our students who are approaching 13.
